Relate the news of Abraham to them. 69 When he said unto his father and his folk: What worship ye? 70 They replied: "We worship idols and are devoted to them." 71 He said: "Do they listen to you when ye call (on them)?" 72 Or do they benefit or harm you? 73 They said, 'Nay, but we found our fathers so doing.' 74 He said: See now that which ye worship, 75 You and your ancient sires. 76 "For they are enemies to me; not so the Lord and Cherisher of the Worlds; 77 who created me. It is He who guides me; 78 Who gives me food and drink, 79 and when I fall ill, is the One who restores me to health, 80 And He Who will cause me to die, then give me life; 81 and who, [hope, will forgive me my faults on Judgment Day! 82 "O my Lord! bestow wisdom on me, and join me with the righteous; 83 And ordain for me a goodly mention among posterity 84 And place me among the inheritors of the Garden of Pleasure. 85 And forgive my father, for surely he is of those who have gone astray; 86 And do not disgrace me on the Day they are [all] resurrected - 87 the day when neither wealth nor sons shall profit 88 but only he that brings to Allah a sound heart will (attain to success)." 89 And the garden shall be brought near for those who guard (against evil), 90 And Hellfire will be brought forth for the deviators, 91 who will be asked, "What did you worship 92 Other than Allah? Can they help you or help themselves?" 93 Then the idols and those who strayed will be hurled into the Fire headlong, one upon another, 94 And the hosts of Iblis all together. 95 There they will quarrel with one another and the erring ones will say (to their deities): 96 "'By Allah, we were truly in an error manifest, 97 When we equalled you with the Lord of the worlds. 98 And none has brought us into error except the Mujrimun [Iblis (Satan) and those of human beings who commit crimes, murderers, polytheists, oppressors, etc.]. 99 Now we have no intercessors, 100 nor any loving friend. 101 If only we could return we would be among the believers." 102 There is certainly a sign in that, but most of them would not believe: 103 And lo, thy Lord! He is indeed the Mighty, the Merciful. 104
