Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
O you who are wrapped up in your mantle, 1 Stay up the night long save a little 2 A half thereof, or abate a little thereof, 3 or add to it [at will]; and [during that time] recite the Qur'an calmly and distinctly, with thy mind attuned to its meaning. 4 For we shall charge thee with a word of weight. 5 Prayer at night leaves the strongest impression on one's soul and the words spoken are more consistent. 6 You have by day prolonged occupations. 7 And remember the name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with [complete] devotion. 8 He is the Lord of the East and the West. There is no god but He. So take Him alone as your protector. 9 And be patient over what they say and avoid them with gracious avoidance. 10 And leave Me Alone to deal with the beliers (those who deny My Verses, etc.), and those who are in possession of good things of life. And give them respite for a little while. 11 Verily, with Us are fetters (to bind them), and a raging Fire. 12 And food that chokes and a painful punishment, 13 (They will come across all this) on the Day when the earth and the mountains shall tremble violently and the mountains shall crumble into heaps of scattered sand. 14 We have sent to you, (O men!) a messenger, to be a witness concerning you, even as We sent a messenger to Pharaoh. 15 But Firon disobeyed the apostle, so We laid on him a violent hold. 16 Then how can you avoid the punishment, if you disbelieve, on a Day that will make the children grey-headed (i.e. the Day of Resurrection)? 17 Whereby heaven shall be split, and its promise shall be performed. 18 Verily this is an admonition; let him therefore, who will, choose a way unto his Lord. 19
