He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because the blind man had come in his august presence. 2 And what should teach thee? Perchance he would cleanse him, 3 Or be admonished, and the admonition profit him? 4 As for he who is sufficed 5 to him thou attendest 6 although thou art not accountable for his failure to attain to purity; 7 But as to him who came to you running. 8 While he fears [Allah], 9 Of him you are neglectful and divert your attention to another, 10 Indeed, this [Quran] is an admonition. 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 upon pages high-honoured, 13 most exalted and purified, 14 Written by the hands of emissaries. 15 noble and pious. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 Of what did He create him? 18 Of a drop of seed. He created him and formed him according to a measure. 19 Then He makes the Path easy for him; 20 He will then send him to death and have him laid in the grave. 21 Then when He pleases, He will bring him back to life. 22 Yet man declines to do His bidding. 23 So man must look at his food. 24 For that We pour forth water in abundance, 25 and then We cleave the earth [with new growth,] cleaving it asunder, 26 and therein made the grains to grow 27 and vines, and reeds, 28 And olives and date-palms, 29 And gardens of dense shrubbery 30 And fruits and herbage 31 For use and convenience to you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 On the Day a man will flee from his brother 34 his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 every man that day shall have business to suffice him. 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 laughing, and rejoicing, 39 but others will be gloomy 40 Veiled in darkness, 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked. 42
