Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Has there come to you the narration of the overwhelming (i.e. the Day of Resurrection); 1 Some faces, that Day, will be humiliated (in the Hell-fire, i.e. the faces of all disbelievers, Jews and Christians, etc.). 2 toiling [under burdens of sin,] worn out [by fear,] 3 they shall burn in a Scorching Fire; 4 Given water from the boiling spring to drink. 5 They shall have no food but of thorns, 6 which neither sustains, nor satisfy hunger. 7 [And] some faces will on that Day shine with bliss, 8 Well-pleased with their endeavour, 9 In a high Garden. 10 Wherein you shall not hear vain talk. 11 Wherein is a gushing spring, 12 raised couches, 13 and prepared goblets, 14 Cushions arranged, 15 and rich carpets levelled out. 16 So do they not see the camel – how it has been created? 17 And the sky: how it was raised high? 18 And at the mountains, how they are rooted? 19 And how the earth was outstretched? 20 And so, [O Prophet,] exhort them; thy task is only to exhort: 21 You are not a watcher over them; 22 However, those who turn away and disbelieve, 23 him will God cause to suffer the greatest suffering [in the life to come]: 24 Surely to Us is their return; 25 In Our hands are their accounts. 26
