The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Read: In the name of thy Lord Who createth, 1 created man from a clot [of blood]. 2 Read! And your Lord is the Most Generous, 3 who has taught [man] the use of the pen 4 taught the human what he did not know. 5 Nay! man is most surely inordinate, 6 As he considers himself independent! 7 truly, all will return to your Lord. 8 Have you seen the one who forbids 9 a worshipper from praying? 10 What is your opinion – if he were upon guidance, 11 Or he commandeth piety? 12 Did you consider: what if he gives the lie (to the Truth) and turns away (from it)? 13 Did he not realise that Allah is watching? 14 Let him beware! If he desist not, We will drag him by the forelock,- 15 A forelock, lying, sinning. 16 So let him call his associates, 17 We, will call the Zabania (the harsh angels of Hell). 18 Nay, Obey not thou him. But prostrate thyself, and draw near (unto Allah). ۩ 19
