For [thus it was:] when We told the angels, "Prostrate yourselves before Adam!" - they all prostrated themselves, save Ibis, who refused [to do it]; 116 Then We said: Adam! verily this is an enemy unto thee and thine spouse; so let him not drive forth you twain from the Garden, lest thou be destressed. 117 Verily you will have no hunger or nakedness there, 118 thirst, or exposure to the hot Sun." 119 Then the Satan whispered unto him; he said: Adam! shall I direct thee to the tree of eternity and a dominion that ageth not? 120 And so the two ate [of the fruit] thereof: and thereupon they became conscious of their nakedness and began to cover themselves with pieced-together leaves from the garden. And [thus] did Adam disobey his Sustainer, and thus did he fall into grievous error. 121 Then his Lord chose him, and relented toward him, and guided him. 122 He said: get ye twain down therefrom together: some of you an enemy unto some others; then if there cometh unto you from Me guidance, whosoever followeth My guidance shall neither go astray nor be distressed. 123 “And the one who turned away from My remembrance – for him is a confined existence, and We shall raise him blind on the Day of Resurrection.” 124 'My Lord' he will say: 'why have You raised me blind when I was able to see' 125 [God] will reply: "Thus it is: there came unto thee Our messages, but thou wert oblivious of them; and thus shalt thou be today consigned to oblivion!" 126 And thus do We recompense him who is extravagant and does not believe in the communications of his Lord, and certainly the chastisement of the hereafter is severer and more lasting 127 Is it not a guidance for them (to know) how many a generation We destroyed before them, amid whose dwellings they walk? Lo! therein verily are signs for men of thought. 128
