The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O thou shrouded in thy mantle, 1 Arise and warn, 2 and magnify the glory of your Lord, 3 And your clothing purify 4 And keep away from Ar-Rujz (the idols)! 5 And bestow not favour that thou mayest receive more. 6 But for your Lord be patient. 7 When the Trumpet is sounded, 8 It will be a day of distress, 9 For the infidels, not easy. 10 Leave Me with him whom I alone have created, 11 and designated for him ample wealth, 12 And sons always present by his side, 13 And made several preparations for him. 14 and who still greedily desires that I should bestow upon him more. 15 Not at all! Surely, he has been disobedient to Our verses. 16 I will cover him with arduous torment. 17 Lo! He reflected, and determined -- 18 death seized him, how was his determining! 19 And once more let him be cursed, how he plotted! 20 He then dared to lift his gaze. 21 Then frowned he and showed displeasure. 22 then he retreated, and waxed proud. 23 Then he said: This is naught but enchantment, narrated (from others); 24 This is nothing but the word of mortal man!" 25 Him shall I fling unto the burning. 26 What could make you conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It spares not (any sinner), nor does it leave (anything unburnt)! 28 it scorches (even) the skin. 29 there are nineteen [angels] in charge of it -- 30 And We have set none but angels as Guardians of the Fire; and We have fixed their number only as a trial for Unbelievers,- in order that the People of the Book may arrive at certainty, and the Believers may increase in Faith,- and that no doubts may be left for the People of the Book and the Believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the Unbelievers may say, "What symbol doth Allah intend by this?" Thus doth Allah leave to stray whom He pleaseth, and guide whom He pleaseth: and none can know the forces of thy Lord, except He and this is no other than a warning to mankind. 31
