The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
I swear by the night when it draws a veil, 1 and by the day when it breaks in its glory, 2 By (the mystery of) the creation of male and female;- 3 Your striving is most surely (directed to) various (ends). 4 So for one who gave and practised piety 5 And testifieth to the Good, 6 We shall facilitate for him the Way to Bliss. 7 But he who is a greedy miser and thinks himself self-sufficient, 8 And denied the best matter, 9 for him shall We make easy the path towards hardship: 10 His wealth will not avail him when he falls into ruin. 11 Verily We take upon Ourselves to guide, 12 and to Us belongs the Hereafter as well as the present world -- 13 Now I have warned you of a Fire that flames, 14 Which only the most wretched must endure, 15 who denied [the truth], and turned away. 16 But those most devoted to Allah shall be removed far from it,- 17 the Godfearing who spends his wealth to purify himself; 18 and confers no favor upon anyone for recompense 19 except the pleasure of their Lord, the Most High 20 surely, he shall be satisfied. 21
