Thamood cried lies to the Envoys 141 When their brother Salih said unto them: Will ye not ward off (evil)? 142 "I am a trustworthy Messenger to you. 143 so fear God and obey me. 144 And I do not ask you any reward for it; my reward is only with the Lord of the worlds: 145 Will you be left secure in what is here; 146 In gardens and fountains, 147 and fields, and [these] palm-trees with slender spathes? 148 “And you carve out dwellings in the mountains, with skill?” 149 So fear God and obey me: 150 "And follow not the command of Al-Musrifun [i.e. their chiefs, leaders who were polytheists, criminals and sinners], 151 Who cause corruption in the land and do not amend." 152 They said: "Thou art only one of those bewitched! 153 “You are just a human like us; therefore bring some sign if you are truthful.” 154 He said: yonder is a she-camel; to her a drink, and to you a drink, each on a day known. 155 "Touch her not with harm, lest the Penalty of a Great Day seize you." 156 But they hamstrung her, then regretted; 157 So the punishment overtook them. Most surely there is a sign in this, but most of them do not believe. 158 Your Lord, He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 159
