He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 And what would make you know that he would purify himself, 3 Or take heed and so the reminder might avail him? 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 So you are after him! 6 And you have nothing to lose if he does not become pure. 7 But he who comes to you running, 8 And he feareth 9 So you leave him, and are engrossed elsewhere! 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 So whoever wills, let him pay attention to it. 12 In honored books, 13 exalted, purified, 14 By the hands of scribes. 15 Honourable and Pious and Just. 16 May man be slain – how ungrateful he is! 17 From what did He create him? 18 From a drop of liquid; He created him and then set several measures for him. 19 Then maketh the way easy for him, 20 and in the end He causes him to die and brings him to the grave; 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will resurrect him (again). 22 Certainly, he has not duly fulfilled His commands. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 That We pour down the water, pouring (it) down in abundance, 25 And We split the earth in clefts, 26 Thereby produced grain in it. 27 And grapes and fodder, 28 And olive-trees and palm-trees 29 and gardens dense with foliage, 30 and fruit and pastures, 31 For use and convenience to you and your cattle. 32 But when the great calamity comes 33 Man will fly from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 And his spouse and his son-- 36 on that Day every man among them will have enough concern of his own -- 37 Some faces will on that Day be bright with happiness, 38 Laughing, joyous. 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 Blackness will cover them: 41 Those, they are the unbelievers, the immoral. 42
