The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the inevitable event comes, 1 Which is bound to happen undoubtedly -- 2 some shall be abased and others exalted. 3 When the earth shall be shaken with a (severe) shaking, 4 and the mountains will crumble 5 So that they will become floating dust particles. 6 And ye shall be sorted out into three classes. 7 Then the companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 8 And those on the left – how (wretched) are those on the left! 9 And those Foremost (in Faith) will be Foremost (in the Hereafter). 10 Who will be honoured 11 In gardens of tranquility; 12 A number of people from those of old, 13 and only a few of them from the later generations. 14 They will recline on jewelled couches 15 facing one another. 16 Immortal youths will serve them 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of pure drink; 18 (no brows throbbing, no intoxication) 19 And fruits that they may like. 20 and with the flesh of any fowl that they may desire to eat; 21 And [with them will be their] companions pure, most beautiful of eye, 22 Like unto Pearls well-guarded. 23 as reward for their deeds. 24 They shall not hear therein vain or sinful discourse, 25 All talk will be sound and upright. 26 And those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 27 (They will be) among Lote-trees without thorns, 28 And clustered plantains, 29 and spreading shade 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 And fruit abundant. 32 Neither out of reach nor yet forbidden, 33 And raised couches. 34 Perfectly We formed them, perfect, 35 And made them virginal, 36 chaste, loving companions of the same age 37 like of age for the Companions of the Right. 38
