The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the Mount (Sinai), 1 And a Scripture inscribed 2 On a parchment scroll unrolled, 3 by the House inhabited 4 The roof raised high, 5 and the sea swarming, 6 Lo! the doom of thy Lord will surely come to pass; 7 Of it there is no preventer. 8 Upon the Day when the heaven spins dizzily 9 And the mountains will move away with an awful movement. 10 Then woe that Day to the beliers; 11 who divert themselves with idle chatter: 12 On that day they will be violently pushed into the fire 13 "This is the fire which you were wont to call a lie! 14 What, is this magic, or is it you that do not see? 15 Taste you therein its heat, and whether you are patient of it or impatient of it, it is all the same. You are only being requited for what you used to do. 16 Truly, the God-fearing will dwell [on that Day] in gardens and in bliss, 17 talking of what they have received from their Lord and of how their Lord has saved them from the torment of hell. 18 'Eat and drink, with wholesome appetite, for that you were working. 19 reclining on couches [of happiness] ranged in rows!" And [in that paradise] We shall mate them with companions pure, most beautiful of eye. 20 And those who believe and whose families follow them in Faith,- to them shall We join their families: Nor shall We deprive them (of the fruit) of aught of their works: (Yet) is each individual in pledge for his deeds. 21 We shall provide them in abundance with all kinds of fruit and meat, whatever they may desire. 22 There they will pass a goblet to one another with neither idle talk nor sin, 23 ۞ And there will go round on them youths appointed to attend them as though they were pearls hidden. 24 And one of them turned towards the other, questioning. 25 Saying: "We were also once full of fear at home. 26 But God has granted us favors and saved us from the scorching heat of the torment. 27 Formerly we had always prayed to Him. Surely He is Most Benign, Most Compassionate.” 28
