Said the Council of the unbelievers of his people, who cried lies to the encounter of the world to come, and to whom We had given ease in the present' life, 'This is naught but a mortal like yourselves, who eats of what you eat and drinks of what you drink. 33 So if you follow a man like yourself you will certainly be doomed. 34 Does he promise you that, after you have died and become [mere] dust and bones, you shall be brought forth [to a new life]? 35 ۞ Far-fetched, far-fetched indeed is what you are promised! 36 There is nought but our life of the world; we die and we live, and we are not going to be raised up. 37 He is nothing but a man who attributes his own lying inventions to God, and we are not going to believe him!" 38 He said, 'O my Lord, help me, for that they cry me lies.' 39 (Allah) said: "In a little while, they are sure to be regretful." 40 And then the blast [of Our punishment] overtook them, justly and unavoidably, and We caused them to become as the flotsam of dead leaves and the scum borne on the surface of a torrent: and so - away with those evildoing folk! 41 After them We produced other generations 42 No people can hasten their term, nor can they delay (it). 43 Thereafter We sent Our apostles, successively. So oft as there came unto a community their apostle, they belied him, so We made them follow one another, and We made them bywords; so away with a people who believe not! 44 Then We sent Musa (Moses) and his brother Harun (Aaron), with Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) and manifest authority, 45 to Pharaoh and his courtiers, but they behaved insolently, for they were an arrogant people. 46 And they said: What! shall we believe in two mortals like ourselves while their people serve us? 47 So they belied them, and they were among the destroyed. 48 And We gave Moses the Book, that haply they would be guided; 49 And We made Mary's son, and his mother, a Sign, and We gave them refuge on a lofty ground, a peaceful site with springs flowing in it. 50
