Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
HAS NEWS OF the Overpowering Event reached you? 1 Some faces, that Day, will be humiliated (in the Hell-fire, i.e. the faces of all disbelievers, Jews and Christians, etc.). 2 laboring, wornout, 3 They shall roast into the scalding Fire, 4 and will be made to drink from a boiling spring, 5 they shall have no food but thorns, 6 which will neither fatten them nor satisfy them. 7 Faces on that day jocund, 8 Pleased with their striving,- 9 In a lofty garden, 10 Where they hear no idle speech, 11 A gushing fountain shall be there 12 And within it are couches placed on high, 13 And goblets set at hand 14 And cushions lined up 15 And silken carpets spread. 16 Have they not looked at how the camel is created, 17 And at the sky, how it is raised aloft? 18 how the mountains were hoisted, 19 And at the earth, how it is outspread? 20 Remind them, for thou art but a remembrancer, 21 Thou art not at all a warder over them. 22 But whoever turns back and disbelieves, 23 God will punish them with the greatest torment. 24 Verily, to Us will be their return; 25 Then indeed, upon Us is their account. 26
