The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Recite thou in the name of thy Lord Who hath created 1 Created man from a clinging substance. 2 Recite: and your Lord is Most Generous, 3 who has taught [man] the use of the pen 4 Hath taught man that which he knew not. 5 No indeed; surely Man waxes insolent, 6 Because he considers himself self-sufficient. 7 Indeed, to your Lord is the returning. 8 Hast thou seen him who dissuadeth 9 A votary when he (turns) to pray? 10 Have you considered if he were on the right way, 11 Or enjoined guarding (against evil)? 12 What will happen if the prohibiting rejects the Truth and turns away from it!? 13 Did he not realise that Allah is watching? 14 By no means! If he desist not We shall seize and deal him by the forelock 15 A lying, sinful forelock! 16 Then, let him call (for help) to his council (of comrades): 17 [the while] We shall summon the forces of heavenly chastisement! 18 Nay! (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him))! Do not obey him (Abu Jahl). Fall prostrate and draw near to Allah! ۩ 19
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
