And when the messengers came to the family of Lot, 61 He said: "Verily! You are people unknown to me." 62 They said: "Nay, we have brought to you that concerning which they have been in doubt. 63 And we have brought unto thee the truth, and verily we say sooth. 64 So set out with your family in a watch of the night, and keep yourself behind them, and no one of you may turn around, and keep going ahead as you have been commanded." 65 And We made plain the case to him, that the root of them (who did wrong) was to be cut at early morn. 66 The people of the town came along, revelling, 67 He said: Lo! they are my guests. Affront me not! 68 And fear Allah and do not disgrace me." 69 They said, “Had we not forbidden you from meddling in the affairs of anyone?” 70 He said, "Here are my daughters, if you must act in this way." 71 By thy life, they wandered blindly in their dazzlement, 72 And thereupon the blast [of Our punishment] overtook them at the time of sunrise, 73 and We turned those [sinful towns] upside down, and rained down upon them stone-hard blows of chastisement pre-ordained. 74 Surely in this are signs for those who examine. 75 And surely it is on a road that still abides. 76 Lo! therein is indeed a portent for believers. 77 Since the People of the Forest were unjust, 78 We therefore took revenge from them; and indeed both these townships are situated on an open road. 79
