The 'Aad belied the sent ones. 123 Recall, when their brother Hud said to them: "Have you no fear? 124 Surely I am a faithful apostle to you; 125 So fear Allah and obey me. 126 "No reward do I ask of you for it: my reward is only from the Lord of the Worlds. 127 What, do you build on every prominence a sign, sporting, 128 and make for yourselves mighty castles, [hoping] that you might become immortal? 129 And when you strike, you strike as tyrants. 130 So fear Allah and obey me. 131 Keep your duty toward Him Who hath aided you with (the good things) that ye know, 132 He has given you flocks and sons, 133 "And gardens and springs. 134 'Indeed, I fear for you the chastisement of a dreadful day.' 135 They said, 'Alike it is to us, whether thou admonishest, or art not one of the admonishers; 136 This is naught but a custom of the ancients; 137 We are not going to be damned." 138 In response they denied him – We therefore destroyed them; indeed in this is a sign; and most of them were not believers. 139 And indeed your Lord – only He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 140
