And Yunus was most surely of the apostles. 139 When he fled unto the laden ship, 140 and cast lots, and was of the rebutted, 141 and the fish swallowed him while he was blaming himself. 142 Had it not been that he (repented and) glorified Allah, 143 he would have tarried in its belly until the day they shall be raised; 144 ۞ But We threw him on a wide bare tract of land while he was ill; 145 And We made a gourd tree grow over him. 146 Then We sent him unto a hundred thousand, or more, 147 And they believed; so We permitted them to enjoy (their life) for a while. 148 Therefore ask them (O dear Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him), whether the daughters are for your Lord and the sons for them! 149 Or did We create the angels as females while they were witnesses?" 150 Lo! it is of their falsehood that they say: 151 'God has begotten?' They are truly liars. 152 (And again of their falsehood): He hath preferred daughters to sons. 153 “What is the matter with you? What sort of a judgement you impose!” 154 What, and will you not remember? 155 Do you have any clear authority for such claims? 156 Bring your Book, if what you say is true! 157 And some people have invented a kinship between Him and all manner of invisible forces although [even] these invisible forces know well that, verily, they [who thus blaspheme against God] shall indeed be arraigned [before Him on Judgment Day: for] 158 Glorified is Allah! (He is Free) from what they attribute unto Him! 159 Not thus, however, [behave] God's true servants: 160 Therefore you and all what you worship. (The disbelievers and their deities.) 161 can lure away from God any 162 except him who shall roast in the Blazing Fire. 163 [The angels say], "Every single one of us has his place assigned: 164 we are the rangers, 165 Lo! we, even we are they who hymn His praise 166 What though they would say, 167 Had we but an admonition as had the ancients. 168 Surely we would have been the bondmen of God sincere. 169 Yet they disbelieve therein. Presently they shall come to know. 170 And, verily, Our Word has gone forth of old for Our slaves, the Messengers, 171 that, verily, they - they indeed - would be succoured, 172 and that Our army will be triumphant. 173 Hence, turn thou aside for a while from those [who deny the truth,] 174 And (then) see them, so they too shall see. 175 Do they, then, [really] wish that Our chastisement be hastened on? 176 But when it descends in their territory, then evil is the morning of those who were warned. 177 So turn thou from them for a while, 178 And watch, for they will (soon) see. 179 Exalted be your Lord, the Lord of Glory, above what they attribute to Him, 180 And peace be upon all His message-bearers! 181 And all praise to God, the Lord of all the worlds. 182
