The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the star when it sets: 1 Your companion did not err, nor did he go astray. 2 He does not speak out of his own desires. 3 This is nothing but a revelation that is conveyed to him, 4 He has been taught by the Extremely Powerful. 5 The Strong; then the Spectacle inclined towards him. 6 While he was on the uppermost horizon. 7 then drew near and suspended hung, 8 So he was the measure of two bows or closer still. 9 And He revealed unto His slave that which He revealed. 10 The heart lied not in that which he saw. 11 What! do you then dispute with him as to what he saw? 12 And certainly he saw him descend a second time: 13 by the lote-tree of the farthest limit, 14 Near it is the Garden of Refuge - 15 When there covered the Lote Tree that which covered [it]. 16 [And withal,] the eye did not waver, nor yet did it stray: 17 Indeed he saw some of the greatest signs of His Lord. 18 Have ye then considered Al-Lat and AL-'uzza: 19 And Manat, the other third (of the pagan deities)? 20 What! unto you the males and unto Him the females? 21 This is an unfair distinction! 22 They are not but [mere] names you have named them - you and your forefathers - for which Allah has sent down no authority. They follow not except assumption and what [their] souls desire, and there has already come to them from their Lord guidance. 23 Does man imagine that it is his due to have all that he might wish for, 24 All that is in the life to come and all that is in this life belongs only to God. 25
