And lo! Jonah verily was of those sent (to warn) 139 When he ran away to a ship completely laden, 140 So he shared (with them), but was of those who are cast off. 141 then the whale swallowed him down, and he blameworthy. 142 and had he not been among those who exalt (Allah), 143 He would have indeed remained inside its belly (the fish) till the Day of Resurrection. 144 ۞ But We threw him on a wide bare tract of land while he was ill; 145 And We caused to grow up for him a gourdplant. 146 And [then] We sent him [once again] to [his people,] a hundred thousand [souls] or more: 147 And they believed, so We gave them provision till a time. 148 So ask them for a pronouncement -- Has thy Lord daughters, and they sons? 149 Or did We create the angels females, while they were witnesses? 150 Is it not of their own calumny that they say, 151 "Allah has begotten off spring or children (i.e. angels are the daughters of Allah)?" And, verily, they are liars! 152 Has He chosen daughters over sons? 153 “What is the matter with you? What sort of a judgement you impose!” 154 Will you not, then, bethink yourselves? 155 Or have you received some clear authority? 156 Then bring your Book if you are truthful! 157 They have established a kinship between Allah and the angels; and the angels know well that these people will be arraigned (as culprits). 158 Glory to Allah! (He is free) from the things they ascribe (to Him)! 159 but not so the true servants of God, 160 Wherefore verily neither ye nor that which ye worship, 161 you shall not tempt any against Him 162 Save him Who is to roast in the Flaming Fire. 163 And there is none of us but has an assigned place, 164 And most surely we are they who draw themselves out in ranks, 165 and we are of those who glorify Allah.” 166 They say, 167 "If we had had with us a Book like that of the people of old, 168 We would certainly have been the servants of Allah-- the purified ones. 169 But they disbelieved in it; soon they shall know! 170 Already Our Word has preceded to Our servants, the Envoys; 171 assuredly they shall be helped, 172 And most surely Our host alone shall be the victorious ones. 173 So, (O Prophet), leave them alone for a while, 174 And see [what will befall] them, for they are going to see. 175 What! would they then hasten on Our chastisement? 176 When it descends on their courtyards, how terrible that morning will be for those who were warned! 177 And turn away from them till a time 178 And wait, for they will soon see. 179 Too glorious is your Lord, the Lord of power, for what they ascribe to Him. 180 And peace be upon the Envoys; 181 And praise belongs to Allah, Lord of the Worlds. 182
