He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 when the blind came to him. 2 You never know. Perhaps he wanted to purify himself, 3 Or take heed and so the reminder might avail him? 4 As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient, 5 To him do you address yourself. 6 though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. 7 But as to him who came to you running. 8 and fears (Allah), 9 From him you are distracted. 10 Indeed, this [Quran] is an admonition. 11 So let whosoever will pay heed to it, 12 upon pages high-honoured, 13 lofty and pure, 14 [borne] by the hands of messengers 15 Noble and dutiful. 16 [But only too often] man destroys himself: how stubbornly does he deny the truth! 17 From what stuff hath He created him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 and then makes it easy for him to go through life; 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). 22 No indeed! Man has not accomplished His bidding. 23 Then let man look at his food, 24 That We pour forth water in abundance, 25 Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts], 26 Then We cause to grow therein the grain, 27 and vines, and reeds, 28 and olive trees and date palms 29 And dense gardens, 30 and fruit and pastures, 31 For use and convenience to you and your cattle. 32 But when the Shout cometh 33 on that Day each person will flee from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 and his consort and his children; 36 on that Day every man among them will have enough concern of his own -- 37 Some faces will shine, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news (of Paradise). 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 Darkness will cover them, 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked. 42
