Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
HaMeem 1 By the Clear Book. 2 We have indeed sent it down in a blessed night – indeed it is We Who warn. 3 Whereon every wise command is made clear 4 [Every] matter [proceeding] from Us. Indeed, We were to send [a messenger] 5 A mercy from your Lord, surely He is the Hearing, the Knowing, 6 Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if ye would be sure. 7 There is no god but He: He gives life and causes death. He is your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers of yore. 8 In fact, the unbelievers have doubts because of excessive involvement in worldly affairs. 9 Then watch thou for the Day that the sky will bring forth a kind of smoke (or mist) plainly visible, 10 That will envelop the people. This will be a painful torment. 11 (Then they will say): Our Lord relieve us of the torment. Lo! we are believers. 12 How can there be an admonition unto them, when surely there came unto them an apostle manifest! 13 Then they had turned away from him (Messenger Muhammad SAW) and said: "One (Muhammad SAW) taught (by a human being), a madman!" 14 Lo! We withdraw the torment a little. Lo! ye return (to disbelief). 15 On the Day whereon We assault them with the greatest assault, verily We shall take vengeance. 16 ۞ And indeed We tried before them Fir'aun's (Pharaoh) people, when there came to them a noble Messenger [i.e. Musa (Moses)], 17 Saying: "Restore to me the Servants of Allah: I am to you an messenger worthy of all trust; 18 Do not consider yourselves above God. I shall show you a manifest authority (in support of my truthfulness). 19 And lo! I have sought refuge in my Lord and your Lord lest ye stone me to death. 20 "But if you believe me not, then keep away from me and leave me alone." 21 Then he supplicated to his Lord saying: 'These are sinful people' 22 So go forth with My servants by night; surely you will be pursued: 23 “And leave the sea as it is, parted in several places; indeed that army will be drowned.” 24 How many were the gardens and springs they left behind, 25 and cornfields and splendid buildings, 26 And favours amongst which they were rejoicing! 27 Even so; and We bequeathed them upon another people. 28 And the heaven and the earth wept not for them, nor were they reprieved. 29
