The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the Mount 1 and by the Book in lines 2 in an exposed parchment 3 By the much-frequented Fane; 4 By the Canopy Raised High; 5 Consider the surf-swollen sea! 6 Indeed, the punishment of your Lord will occur. 7 There is none that can ward it off. 8 The day the sky will tremble, 9 and the mountains are in motion, 10 Then woe that day unto the deniers 11 Those who in wading sport themselves. 12 On the Day whereon they will be pushed into Hell-Fire with a dreadful push. 13 "This:, it will be said, "Is the Fire,- which ye were wont to deny! 14 “So is this magic, or are you unable to see?” 15 Endure the heat thereof, and whether ye are patient of it or impatient of it is all one for you. Ye are only being paid for what ye used to do. 16 Lo! those who kept their duty dwell in gardens and delight, 17 rejoicing in whatever their Lord has given them. Their Lord has saved them from the torment of the Fire, 18 (It will be said): 'Eat and drink with a good appetite because of that which you did' 19 reclining on couches arranged in rows. And We shall wed them to fair maidens with large beautiful eyes. 20 And those who believe and whose progeny follow them in belief. We shall cause their progeny to join them, and We shall not diminish unto them aught of their own work. Every man is for that which he hath earned a pledge. 21 We shall give them fruits and meat as they desire. 22 and in that [paradise] they shall pass on to one another a cup which will not give rise to empty talk, and neither incite to sin. 23 ۞ and youths, of their own, shall pass among them as if they were hidden pearls. 24 And they [who are thus blest] will turn to one another, asking each other [about their past lives]. 25 Saying: "Aforetime, we were afraid with our families (from the punishment of Allah). 26 Wherefore Allah hath obliged us, and hath protected us from the torment of the Scorch. 27 We had prayed to Him; He is Kind and All-merciful". 28
