The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
The Hour has drawn nigh: the moon is split. 1 Yet if they see a sign (the unbelievers) turn their backs and say: 'This is but a continuation of sorcery' 2 They have belied, and follow their own fancies. But, every issue will be settled! 3 There have already come to them Recitals wherein there is (enough) to check (them), 4 which are full of wisdom; but the warnings do not help. 5 So turn thou away from them. Upon the day when the Caller shall call unto a horrible thing, 6 Their eyes humbled, they will emerge from the graves as if they were locusts spreading, 7 running with outstretched necks to the Caller. The unbelievers shall say, 'This is a hard day!' 8 ۞ Before them the People of Noah rejected (their messenger): they rejected Our servant, and said, "Here is one possessed!", and he was driven out. 9 So he prayed to his Lord: "I am helpless, deliver me." 10 And We opened up the flood gates of the sky with water pouring down in torrents, 11 And We made the earth break forth with springs; so that the water met for an affair already decreed. 12 And We carried him on a [construction of] planks and nails, 13 Sailing in front of Our sight; as a reward for the sake of one who was rejected. 14 And indeed, We have caused such [floating vessels] to remain forever a sign [of Our grace unto man]: who, then, is willing to take it to heart? 15 How then were My chastisement and My warnings? 16 And We have indeed made the Qur’an easy to memorise, so is there one who would remember? 17 Aad too belied. How then were My punishment and My warnings! 18 We sent a tumultuous wind against them on a day of unremitting misfortune, 19 Extracting the people as if they were trunks of palm trees uprooted. 20 How was then My punishment and My commination! 21 We have made it easy to learn lessons from the Quran: is there anyone who would receive admonition? 22
