The Comet (Al-Taareq)
17 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Town (Al-Balad) before The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
CONSIDER the heavens and that which comes in the night! 1 and what could make you know what it is that comes in the night? 2 The very brightly shining star! 3 Over every soul there is a watcher. 4 So let man observe from what he was created. 5 He is created from a water dripping, 6 issuing from between the backbone and the breastbone: 7 God has certainly power to bring him back (from the dead). 8 The Day when all the secrets (deeds, prayers, fasting, etc.) will be examined (as to their truth). 9 So man will neither have any strength nor any aide. 10 By heaven of the returning rain, 11 And by oath of the earth which flourishes with it. 12 Most surely it is a decisive word, 13 And is not a matter of amusement. 14 They are planning a scheme, 15 And I plot a plot (against them). 16 So grant the unbelievers a respite: let them alone for a while. 17
