AND, [likewise,] indeed, the people of Al-Hijr gave the lie to [Our] message-bearers: 80 And We gave them Our signs, but from them they were turning away. 81 They hewed their dwellings out of the mountains in safety. 82 So the scream overcame them at morning. 83 and whatever they had been earning proved of no avail. 84 We created not the heavens, the earth, and all between them, but for just ends. And the Hour is surely coming (when this will be manifest). So overlook (any human faults) with gracious forgiveness. 85 Verify thy Lord! He is the Great Creator, the Knower. 86 We have given thee seven of the oft-repeated (verses) and the great Qur'an. 87 Do not strain your eyes after what We have given certain classes of them to enjoy, and do not grieve for them, and make yourself gentle to the believers. 88 And say: 'I am the plain warner' 89 Such as We send down for those who make division, 90 Those who broke the Word of Allah into several parts. (Those who broke the Torah / Bible or changed its text – or those who called the Qur’an a fabrication / poetry.) 91 Therefore, by your Lord, We shall question every one of them. 92 For all that they used to do. 93 Therefore declare openly what you are bidden and turn aside from the polytheists. 94 Truly! We will suffice you against the scoffers. 95 Who make [equal] with Allah another deity. But they are going to know. 96 And surely We know that your breast straitens at what they say; 97 So hallow thou the praise of thy Lord, and be thou of the prostrate. 98 And worship your Lord until there comes to you the certainty (death). 99
