By the moon, 32 And the night when it withdraweth 33 and the dawn when it is white, 34 Verily it is one of the greatest woes. 35 a warning to humans, 36 to whoever of you desires to go forward or lag behind. 37 Every soul shall be pledged for what it has earned, 38 except the Companions of the Right. 39 In gardens they will ask one another 40 Of evil-doers: 41 "What has brought you into hell-fire?" 42 They will reply, "We did not pray, 43 we fed not the needy, 44 We indulged and persisted in useless disputes, 45 and belied the Day of Recompense 46 Till the Inevitable came unto us. 47 So, the intercession of intercessors will not avail them. 48 What is the matter with them that they turn away from this Reminder, 49 As if they were alarmed donkeys 50 fleeing from a lion? 51 Forsooth, each one of them wants to be given scrolls (of revelation) spread out! 52 Never! In fact they do not fear the Hereafter. 53 Nay, this surely is an admonition: 54 Let any who will, keep it in remembrance! 55 And they will not remember except that Allah wills. He is worthy of fear and adequate for [granting] forgiveness. 56
