Verily We created man of potter's clay of black mud altered, 26 while We had brought the jinn into being before out of blazing fire. 27 And recall what time thy Lord said unto the angels: verily I am about to create a man from ringing clay of loam moulded. 28 Then when I have formed him and breathed into him of My Spirit fall down unto him prostrate. 29 All the angels prostrated themselves, 30 Save Iblis. He refused to be among the prostrate. 31 Said He, 'What ails thee, Iblis, that thou art not among those bowing?' 32 He said: I am not such that I should make obeisance to a mortal whom Thou hast created of the essence of black mud fashioned in shape. 33 (Allah) said: "Then, get out from here, for verily, you are Rajim (an outcast or a cursed one)." [Tafsir At-Tabari] 34 and the curse shall be on you till the Day of Judgement!" 35 He said: My Lord! Reprieve me till the day when they are raised. 36 (Allah) said: "Respite is granted thee 37 till the Day the time whereof is known [to Me alone]." 38 He said, "My Lord, since You have let me go astray. I shall make the path of error seem alluring to them on the earth and shall mislead them all, 39 [all] save such of them as are truly Thy servants!" 40 (To which God) said: "This way is right by Me. 41 "Certainly, you shall have no authority over My slaves, except those who follow you of the Ghawin (Mushrikun and those who go astray, criminals, polytheists, and evil-doers, etc.). 42 Surely Hell is the promised place for all of them." 43 "It (Hell) has seven gates, for each of those gates is a (special) class (of sinners) assigned. 44
