The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
I swear by the angels who violently pull out the souls of the wicked, 1 by the drawers (the angels of death), gently drawing (the souls of the believers), 2 And who glide with ease. 3 by those that outstrip them suddenly, 4 And then they manage the affair, 5 One Day everything that can be in commotion will be in violent commotion, 6 And there will follow it the next blast. 7 Hearts will pound loudly on that day, 8 [and] their eyes downcast... 9 They say: 'What, are we being restored as we were before, 10 “When we have become decayed bones?” 11 They say: that then shall be a losing return. 12 It will be only one scaring shout, 13 And suddenly they will be [alert] upon the earth's surface. 14 Hath there come unto thee the story of Musa! 15 Recall what time his Lord called unto him in the holy vale of Tuwa. 16 Go to Firon, surely he has become inordinate. 17 And say: 'Would you like to grow (in virtue)? 18 Then I will guide you to your Lord that you may come to fear Him.'" 19 Then Moses (went to Pharaoh and) showed him the Great Sign; 20 but the Pharaoh rejected it and disobeyed (Moses). 21 Then he went back hastily. 22 and gathered his people together 23 and proclaimed, and he said, 'I am your Lord, the Most High!' 24 And thereupon God took him to task, [and made him] a warning example in the life to come as well as in this world. 25 In this, behold, there is a lesson indeed for all who stand in awe [of God]. 26
