The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
When the sun shall be wound round, 1 And when the stars fall, 2 And when the hills are moved, 3 And when the camels big with young are abandoned, 4 and when all beasts are gathered together, 5 And when the seas are set on fire, 6 And when souls are united, 7 And when the female infant buried alive is asked 8 For what crime she was killed; 9 And when the Writs shall be lain open, 10 when the sky is unveiled, 11 When Hell is set ablaze, 12 and Paradise brought nigh: 13 then shall each person know what he has brought along. 14 So verily, I swear by the planets that recede (i.e. disappear during the day and appear during the night). 15 That run their course (and) hide themselves, 16 and the night that falls, 17 And the morning when it brightens, 18 it is indeed the word of an Honorable Messenger, 19 Mighty, established in the presence of the Lord of the Throne, 20 who is obeyed there and is worthy of trust. 21 Nor is your companion distracted. 22 He certainly saw him (Gabriel) high up on the horizon in his original form 23 And he is of the unseen not a tenacious concealer. 24 Nor is this the word of a stoned satan. 25 So where are you going? 26 It is naught but a reminder for the nations, 27 Unto whomsoever of you willeth to walk straight. 28 Though you cannot desire except as God will, the Lord of all the worlds. 29
