The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the event befalleth - 1 and there can be no denying its happening, 2 The event will be abasing some, and exalting some. 3 When the earth is shaken 4 And the hills are ground to powder 5 Turned to dust, floating in the air, 6 You will become three categories: 7 Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 8 And those on the left – how (wretched) are those on the left! 9 and the Outstrippers: the Outstrippers 10 It is they who are the close ones. 11 In Gardens of Delight. 12 A multitude of those (foremost) will be from the first generations (who embraced Islam). 13 And a few from the later generations. 14 Seated on couches wrought in gold and encrusted with precious stones, 15 reclining on them, arrayed face to face; 16 immortal youths going round about them 17 with goblets, jugs and cups of crystal clear wine 18 Wherefrom they will get neither any aching of the head, nor any intoxication. 19 and such fruits as they shall choose, 20 And the flesh of fowls, any that they may desire. 21 And pure, beautiful ones, 22 Like unto Pearls well-guarded. 23 A reward for what they used to do. 24 They will not hear therein ill speech or commission of sin - 25 Nought but the saying: peace! peace! 26 NOW AS FOR those who have attained to righteousness - what of those who have attained to righteousness? 27 (will be) among thornless Lote trees. 28 And [banana] trees layered [with fruit] 29 And shade extended 30 And water gushing, 31 and abundant fruit, 32 never-ending and unrestricted, 33 And [upon] beds raised high. 34 Perfectly We formed them, perfect, 35 and shall have made them virgins, 36 chaste, loving companions of the same age 37 for the people of the right hand 38
