The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
A supplicant asked for a punishment bound to happen 1 The unbelievers-- there is none to avert it-- 2 (A punishment) from Allah, the Owner of the Elevated Passages. 3 To Him ascend the angels and the Spirit in a day the measure of which is fifty thousand years. 4 So be patient (O Muhammad SAW), with a good patience. 5 Verily! They see it (the torment) afar off, 6 while We think that it is near at hand. 7 It shall befall on a Day whereon the heaven shall become like unto dregs of oil. 8 And the mountains shall be as tufts of wool 9 And no friend will ask after a friend, 10 though they are in sight of each other. To ransom himself from the punishment of that Day, the sinner will wish that he might even ransom himself by his sons, 11 And his wife and his brother 12 And his family who had stood by him, 13 and whosoever is in the earth, altogether, so that it might save him. 14 But no! There is a raging blaze 15 tearing away his skin! 16 It calls out to him who reverted and turned away. 17 and amassed (riches) and hoarded. 18 ۞ Verily man is formed impatient. 19 bewailing when evil befalls him, 20 and tight-fisted when good fortune visits him, 21 except those that pray, 22 and constant in their prayers. 23 who, from their wealth is a known right 24 For the beggar and the destitute; 25 who acknowledge the Day of Judgment, 26 And those who are fearful of their Lord's doom - 27 surely the chastisement of their Lord is a thing none can feel secure from – 28 And those who guard their private parts, 29 Are free of blame, 30 But those who seek more than this will be transgressors; 31 And those who are faithful to their trusts and their covenant 32 And those who stand by their testimony 33 And those who protect their prayers. 34 Such shall dwell in the Gardens (i.e. Paradise) honoured. 35
