In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O thou enwrapped! 1 rise (to pray) the night except a little; 2 A half of it or a little less 3 Or a little more, and recite the Qur'an slowly and distinctly. 4 Behold, We shall cast upon you a Weighty Word. 5 surely the first part of the night is heavier in tread, more upright in speech, 6 Indeed you have a lot of matters during the day. 7 And remember the Name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with a complete devotion. 8 Lord of the East and Lord of the West – there is no God except Him, therefore make Him your sole Trustee of affairs. 9 Bear patiently with what they say and with a fine abandonment forsake them. 10 And leave Me and the rejecters, the possessors of ease and plenty, and respite them a little. 11 We have fetters (for them) and a blazing fire, 12 And food that chokes and a painful punishment, 13 On the Day when the earth and the mountains will be in violent shake, and the mountains will be a heap of sand poured out and flowing down. 14 We have indeed sent a Noble Messenger towards you, a present witness over you – the way We had sent a Noble Messenger towards Firaun. 15 However, the Pharaoh disobeyed the Messenger and We seized him with a severe retribution. 16 How then, if you disbelieve, will you preserve yourselves on the day which will even turn the children hoary? 17 Whereby heaven shall be split, and its promise shall be performed. 18 Surely this is a Reminder; so let him who will take unto his Lord a way. 19
