Nay, and by the moon, 32 And by the Night as it retreateth, 33 And by the dawn when it brightens, 34 That (Hell) is surely one of the greater (signs), 35 A warning to mortals, 36 To any of you that chooses to go forward (by working righteous deeds), or to remain behind (by commiting sins), 37 Every soul, for what it has earned, will be retained 38 except those of the right hand 39 In Gardens they will question 40 of those who were lost in sin: 41 What has brought you into hell? 42 They shall say: We were not of those who prayed; 43 And we used not to feed the poor; 44 We used to wade (in vain dispute) with (all) waders, 45 "And we used to belie the Day of Recompense 46 until there came to us the certainty. 47 The intercession of the intercessors shall then be of no avail to them. 48 WHAT, THEN, is amiss with them that they turn away from all admonition 49 As if they were startled donkeys – 50 That had fled from a lion? 51 Nay, but everyone of them desireth that he should be given open pages (from Allah). 52 Nay, but they do not [believe in and hence, do not] fear the life to come. 53 There is no doubt that the Quran is a guide. 54 So whosoever will may heed. 55 No one will seek guidance unless God wills it. He alone is worthy of being feared and He is the Source of Forgiveness. 56
