The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the sun and its noon-time brightness, 1 And by oath of the moon when it follows the sun 2 and by the day when it displays him 3 And the night when it enshroudeth him, 4 By the heaven and Him Who builded it, 5 And the earth and Him Who spread it, 6 By the soul and Him Who propertioned it, 7 And inspired in it the knowledge of its sins and its piety. 8 He will indeed be successful who purifies it, 9 and those who corrupt their souls will certainly be deprived (of happiness). 10 Thamud belied in their exorbitance. 11 When the most unfortunate of them broke forth with 12 But the Messenger of Allah said to them: "It is a She-camel of Allah! And (bar her not from) having her drink!" 13 Then they belied him and they hamstrung her; wherefore their Lord overwhelmed them for their crime, and made it equal. 14 and He fears not the issue thereof. 15
