The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ When the event befalleth - 1 there will be nought that could give the lie to its having come to pass, 2 (it will) abase (some) and exalt (others). 3 When the earth is shaken 4 and the mountains are shattered into [countless] shards, 5 and will scatter abroad into fine dust. 6 And ye will be three kinds: 7 The People on the Right: and how fortunate will be the People on the Right! 8 And (as to) the companions of the left hand; how wretched are the companions of the left hand! 9 And the foremost in the race, the foremost in the race: 10 It is they who are the close ones. 11 in the Gardens of Bliss. 12 a good many of those of olden times, 13 And a few of later ages, 14 On thrones woven [with ornament], 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 Immortal youths will wait upon them 17 Carrying bowls and pitchers – and cups filled with wine flowing before them. 18 a drink by which their minds will not be clouded nor will it cause drunkenness; 19 Also, they will be served with the fruits of their choice 20 And the flesh of fowl such as they desire. 21 And [with them will be their] companions pure, most beautiful of eye, 22 like hidden pearls, 23 As recompense for all they had done. 24 They will not hear any unnecessary or sinful talk 25 Only the saying, "Peace! Peace". 26 As for the People on the Right, how fortunate shall be the people on the Right! 27 Among thorn-less lote-trees. 28 and acacias flower-clad, 29 And in everlasting shade. 30 and flowing water, 31 and abundant fruit, 32 Whose season is not limited, and their supply will not be cut off, 33 They shall be on upraised couches, 34 Surely We have made them to grow into a (new) growth, 35 And made them virginal, 36 intensely loving and of matching age. 37 For those of the right hand. 38
