He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came unto him a blind man. 2 What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) 3 Or be admonished, so that the admonition might have profited him? 4 As for he who is sufficed 5 to him didst thou give thy whole attention, 6 What does it matter to you if he will not become pure (from disbelief, you are only a Messenger, your duty is to convey the Message of Allah). 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 And is afraid (of Allah and His Punishment), 9 So you leave him, and are engrossed elsewhere! 10 Not this way – this is the advice. 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 Inscribed in Writs honoured, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 borne by the hands of scribes, 15 Noble and righteous. 16 Perish Man! How unthankful he is! 17 Of what [stuff] has He created him? 18 Of a drop of seed. He created him and formed him according to a measure. 19 Then the way He made easy. 20 Then gave him death, so had him put in the grave. 21 and He will resurrect him whenever He wants. 22 Not one – he has not yet completed what he was commanded. 23 So let man just consider his food: 24 how We pour down rain in abundance, 25 and cleaved the earth, cleaving it asunder; 26 Then We cause to grow therein the grain, 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 and olives, and palms, 29 And dense gardens, 30 And fruits and herbage 31 an enjoyment for you and your flocks. 32 But, when the Blast comes, 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his sons; 36 Every man of them shall on that day have an affair which will occupy him. 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 laughing, joyous; 39 And other faces that Day will be dust-stained, 40 Blackness will cover them. 41 those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines. 42
