Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Ha Mim 1 By the Book that makes things clear; 2 We have indeed sent it down in a blessed night – indeed it is We Who warn. 3 (We revealed it on the Night) wherein every matter is wisely determined 4 [Every] matter [proceeding] from Us. Indeed, We were to send [a messenger] 5 A mercy from your Lord; indeed He only is the All Hearing, the All Knowing. 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that lies between them, if you really do believe. 7 There is no deity save Him: He grants life and deals death: He is your Sustainer as well as the Sustainer of your forebears of old. 8 Yet they play about in doubt. 9 Then wait you for the Day when the sky will bring forth a visible smoke. 10 enveloping all mankind, [and causing the sinners to exclaim:] "Grievous is this suffering! 11 O our Sustainer, relieve us of suffering, for, verily, we [now] believe [in Thee]!" 12 How can there be for them an admonition (at the time when the torment has reached them), when a Messenger explaining things clearly has already come to them. 13 Yet they turned away from him and said: one tutored, one distraced. 14 We shall remove the torment for a while but you will revert to your old ways. 15 The day when We will seize with the greatest seizure – We will indeed take revenge. 16 ۞ Indeed before that We subjected the Pharaonites to the same test. A noble Messenger came to them 17 Saying: Give up to me the slaves of Allah. Lo! I am a faithful messenger unto you. 18 And saying, “And do not rebel against Allah; I have brought a clear proof to you.” 19 I have taken refuge in my Lord and your Lord against your stoning me to death. 20 If you do not want to believe, leave me alone". 21 And [finally] he called to his Lord that these were a criminal people. 22 (His Lord answered): 'Set out with My worshipers in the night, for you will surely be followed. 23 And leave the sea behind at rest, for lo! they are a drowned host. 24 How many gardens and fountains did they leave behind, 25 And crops and noble sites 26 and what prosperity they had rejoiced in! 27 Such was their end, and what had been theirs We gave to other people to inherit. 28 Then neither the sky shed tears over them nor the earth. They were granted no respite. 29
