He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting]. 2 But what could tell you that per chance he might become pure (from sins)? 3 Or that he may accept advice, so the advice may benefit him. 4 As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient, 5 you eagerly attended to him -- 6 And you have nothing to lose if he does not become pure. 7 And as for him who cometh unto thee running, 8 and in awe [of God] 9 of him you were unmindful. 10 No indeed; it is a Reminder 11 So let whosoever will pay heed to it, 12 (It is) in Records held (greatly) in honour (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz). 13 Exalted and holy, 14 by the hands of the noble, virtuous, 15 noble, pious. 16 Perish man! how ungrateful he is! 17 Of what thing hath He created him? 18 From a sperm-drop He created him and destined for him; 19 Then doth He make His path smooth for him; 20 Then gave him death, so had him put in the grave. 21 Then when He pleases, He will bring him back to life. 22 Yet man declines to do His bidding. 23 Let the human reflect on the food he eats, 24 That We pour down the water, pouring (it) down in abundance, 25 Thereafter We cleave the earth in clefts, 26 to yield therein corn, 27 and vines, and reeds, 28 And olive and palm trees 29 And garden-closes of thick foliage 30 and fruits, and pastures, 31 Provision for you and your cattle. 32 When the trumpet sounds, 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 Mother and father, 35 and from his spouse and his children: 36 on that Day every man among them will have enough concern of his own -- 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them, 40 with darkness overspread: 41 Those, they are the unbelievers, the immoral. 42
