Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the dawn 1 And by oath of ten nights. 2 by the even and the odd, 3 And the night when it departeth, 4 Why is there an oath in this, for the intelligent? 5 Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with Ad, 6 (The people of) Aram, possessors of lofty buildings, 7 the like of which was never created in the countries? 8 And with the Thamud (people), who cut out (huge) rocks in the valley?- 9 And with Firaun, who used to crucify. 10 Who (all) were rebellious (to Allah) in these lands, 11 and exceeded in corruption therein. 12 So your Lord poured on them different kinds of severe torment. 13 Indeed nothing is hidden from the sight of your Lord. 14 BUT AS FOR man, whenever his Sustainer tries him by His generosity and by letting him enjoy a life of ease, he says, "My Sustainer has been [justly] generous towards me"; 15 And if He tests him and restricts his livelihood – thereupon he says, “My Lord has degraded me!” 16 Nay, nay! but ye honour not the orphans! 17 Nor urge upon each other the feeding of the poor, 18 And you eat away the heritage, devouring (everything) indiscriminately, 19 And ye love wealth with inordinate love! 20 Nay, but [how will you fare on Judgment Day,] when the earth is crushed with crushing upon crushing, 21 And thy Lord shall come and the angels, rank on rank. 22 And hell is brought near that day; on that day man will remember, but how will the remembrance (then avail him)? 23 He will say, "Would that I had done some good deeds for this life". 24 So on that day, no one punishes like He does! 25 And none will bind as He will bind. 26 (It will be said to the pious): "O (you) the one in (complete) rest and satisfaction! 27 "Come back to your Lord, Well-pleased (yourself) and well-pleasing unto Him! 28 So enter among My servants, 29 Enter then My garden." 30
