AND HAS the story of Abraham's honoured guests ever come within thy ken? 24 When they came in unto him and said: peace! he said: peace! people unknown. 25 Then he went to his family and came with a fat [roasted] calf 26 and placed it before them, saying, "Will you not eat?" 27 beginning to be afraid of them. But they said, "Don't be afraid"; and they gave him the good news of a son who would be endowed with knowledge. 28 Then his wife came forward, making moan, and smote her face, and cried: A barren old woman! 29 They said: “So has your Lord said (that you shall have a boy). Surely He is Most Wise, All-Knowing.” 30 ۞ [Abraham] said, "Then what is your business [here], O messengers?" 31 They answered: "Behold, we have been sent unto a people lost in sin, 32 To send down upon them stones of clay, 33 Marked, from before thy Lord, for the extravagant. 34 So We brought out whoever was in the cities of the believers. 35 And We found not therein more than one house of the Muslims. 36 And so We left therein a message for those who fear the grievous suffering [which awaits all evildoers]. 37 AND IN [the story of Pharaoh and] Moses, too, [We left the same message: for] when We sent him unto Pharaoh with [Our] manifest authority, 38 But he turned away with his forces and said: A magician or a mad man. 39 So We took him and his forces, and threw them into the sea; and his was the blame. 40 And in the 'Ad (people) (was another Sign): Behold, We sent against them the devastating Wind: 41 It spared naught that it reached, but made it (all) as dust. 42 And in Thamud, when We said to them: "Enjoy yourselves for a while;" 43 But they insolently defied the Command of their Lord, so the Sa'iqah overtook them while they were looking. 44 So they were not able to rise up, nor could they defend themselves- 45 So were the People of Noah before them for they wickedly transgressed. 46
