The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When there happeneth the Event. 1 – and then there will be no one to deny its occurrence – 2 (a calamitous Event) that shall turn things upside down: 3 When the earth is shaken up convulsively, 4 And the hills are ground to powder 5 So that they become a scattered dust, 6 And you (all) will be in three kinds (i.e. separate groups). 7 The people of the right hand - those whose books of records will be placed in their right hands. How happy they will be! 8 Those on the Left -- how unlucky are those on the Left! 9 And those foremost [(in Islamic Faith of Monotheism and in performing righteous deeds) in the life of this world on the very first call for to embrace Islam,] will be foremost (in Paradise). 10 These are they who are drawn nigh (to Allah), 11 They will dwell in the Gardens of Bliss: 12 A number of the earlier peoples, 13 And a few from those of later times. 14 [They will be seated] on gold-encrusted thrones of happiness, 15 Reclining thereon, face to face. 16 There wait on them immortal youths 17 carrying goblets and ewers and cups filled with the purest wine, 18 Whereby there shall be neither headiness nor will they be inebriated. 19 along with fruits of their choice; 20 Bird meats that they relish, 21 And wide eyed houris 22 as the likeness of hidden pearls, 23 The reward for what they did. 24 Not frivolity will they hear therein, nor any taint of ill,- 25 Only a saying: "Peace, peace." 26 As for those of the right hand -- how (happy) those of the right hand -- 27 They will live amid the thornless lot trees 28 Among Talh trees with flowers (or fruits) piled one above another,- 29 and continuous shade, 30 And water everflowing. 31 And fruit in plenty 32 undiminished and never denied 33 And carpets raised. 34 We have created (their Companions) of special creation. 35 having resurrected them as virgins, 36 The beloved of their husbands, of one age. 37 for the people of the right hand 38
