In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O THOU enwrapped one! 1 Arise [to pray] the night, except for a little - 2 (Worship Him) for more or less than half of the night 3 Or a little more; and recite the Qur'an in slow, measured rhythmic tones. 4 Indeed, We will cast upon you a heavy word. 5 [and,] verily, the hours of night impress the mind most strongly and speak with the clearest voice, 6 You have by day prolonged occupations [with Dawah work]. 7 And remember the name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with (exclusive) devotion. 8 He is the Lord of the East and the West. There is no god but He. So take Him alone as your protector. 9 Bear with patience what they say, and gracefully come away from them. 10 And let Me alone with the beliers, owners of ease: and respite thou them a little. 11 Indeed We have heavy fetters and a blazing fire. 12 and food that chokes, and a painful chastisement, 13 on the Day the earth and mountains shall shake and the mountains crumble into shifting sand dunes. 14 Indeed, We have sent to you a Messenger as a witness over you, just as We sent a Messenger to Pharaoh. 15 But Pharaoh disobeyed the messenger, so We seized him with a ruinous seizure. 16 Then how can you fear, if you disbelieve, a Day that will make the children white- haired? 17 on which the heaven will split apart, and His promise is done. 18 Surely this is a Reminder; so let him who will take unto his Lord a way. 19
