The News (Al-Naba')
40 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej) before The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ Concerning what are they disputing? 1 About the awesome tidings [of resurrection] 2 That over which they are in disagreement. 3 By no means! anon they shall know. 4 Again surely yes, they will soon come to know! 5 Have We not made the earth as a cradle 6 And the mountains as pegs? 7 And We created you in pairs, 8 and gave you repose in sleep, 9 And have appointed the night as a cloak, 10 And made the day as a means of subsistence? 11 We have built above you seven mighty heavens, 12 And We made a shining lamp, 13 and have sent down from the clouds, pouring rain 14 so that We may thereby bring forth grain and vegetation, 15 and gardens luxuriant. 16 Indeed, the Day of Decision is an appointed time, 17 The day the trumpet blast is sounded you will come in hordes; 18 And the heavens shall be opened as if there were doors, 19 and when the mountains are made to vanish as if they had been a mirage. 20 Hell will lie in wait (for its prey). 21 a resort for the rebellious; 22 They will remain in it for ages. 23 They shall not taste therein cool nor drink 24 Save a boiling fluid and a fluid, dark, murky, intensely cold, 25 for a suitable recompense. 26 They did not expect such a Judgment 27 and they absolutely belied Our verses, 28 And all things have We preserved on record. 29 So taste you (the results of your evil actions); no increase shall We give you, except in torment. 30
