He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ The Prophet frowned and turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 How canst thou know, whether haply he might be cleansed, 3 Or be admonished, so that the admonition might have profited him? 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 To him you give attention. 6 And you have nothing to lose if he does not become pure. 7 And as for him who cometh unto thee running, 8 and fearfully, 9 From him you are distracted. 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 and so, whoever is willing may remember Him 12 It is contained in scrolls highly honoured, 13 Exalted (in dignity), purified, 14 Written by the hands of emissaries. 15 Honourable and obedient. 16 Cursed is man; how disbelieving is he. 17 Of what substance God created him? 18 He created him from a living germ. He determined his fate 19 and then makes it easy for him to go through life; 20 then makes him to die, and buries him, 21 and then, whenever He wishes, He will raise him back to life. 22 Nay, but man did not fulfil what Allah had enjoined upon him. 23 Let man therefore consider (the sources of) his food. 24 For that We pour forth water in abundance, 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 We make the grain grow out of it, 27 and grape vines and vegetables, 28 And the olive and the palm, 29 And dense gardens, 30 And fruits and grasses: 31 Provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry comes, 33 it will be such a day when a person will run away from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 Each one of them, that Day, will have enough concern (of his own) to make him indifferent to the others. 37 Some faces that Day, will be bright (true believers of Islamic Monotheism). 38 Laughing, joyous. 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 and veiled with darkness. 41 those will be ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity. 42
