He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because there came unto him a blind man. 2 And what would make you know that he would purify himself, 3 (He might) remember, and the Reminder might profit him. 4 As for he who is sufficed 5 to him didst thou give thy whole attention, 6 And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified. 7 And as for him who cometh unto thee running, 8 and in awe of God 9 From him thou art distracted. 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 So whoso wills may give heed to it. 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 uplifted, purified, 14 borne by the hands of scribes, 15 noble and most virtuous. 16 Perish Man! How unthankful he is! 17 Of what did He create him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 then eased his path for him, 20 Then He causes him to die, and puts him in his grave; 21 Then when He pleases, He will bring him back to life. 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it): 24 We let the rain pour down in torrents 25 Then split the earth in clefts 26 to yield therein corn, 27 And grapes and fodder, 28 Olives and dates, 29 thickly planted gardens, 30 And fruits and herbage: 31 as provision for you and for your cattle to enjoy. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 On the day when a man fleeth from his brother 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 every man that day shall have business to suffice him. 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 laughing and joyful, 39 And other faces that Day will be dust-stained, 40 and overcast with gloom: 41 Those! they are the infidels, the ungodly. 42
