Verily We created you and gave you form and shape, and ordered the angels to bow before Adam in homage; and they all bowed but Iblis who was not among those who bowed. 11 Said He, 'What prevented thee to bow thyself, when I commanded thee?' Said he, 'I am better than he; Thou createdst me of fire, and him Thou createdst of clay.' 12 [Allah] said, "Descend from Paradise, for it is not for you to be arrogant therein. So get out; indeed, you are of the debased. 13 Satan asked the Lord to give him respite (keep him alive) until the Day of Resurrection. 14 (Allah) said: "Be thou among those who have respite." 15 [Satan] said, "Because You have put me in error, I will surely sit in wait for them on Your straight path. 16 then I will surely come upon them from before them and from behind them and from their right and from their left, and then You will find most of them ungrateful." 17 He said: Get out of this (state), despised, driven away; whoever of them will follow you, I will certainly fill hell with you all. 18 Then the Lord said, "Adam, stay in the garden with your spouse and eat whatever you want therein, but do not go near this tree lest you transgress". 19 Then Satan whispered to them, to reveal to them that which was hidden from them of their shameful parts. He said, 'Your Lord has only prohibited you from this tree lest you become angels, or lest you become immortals.' 20 And he swore to them both, that he was their sincere adviser. 21 Thus did he lead them on with guile. And when they tasted of the tree their shame was manifest to them and they began to hide (by heaping) on themselves some of the leaves of the Garden. And their Lord called them, (saying): Did I not forbid you from that tree and tell you: Lo! Satan is an open enemy to you? 22 They both submitted, “Our Lord! We have wronged ourselves; so if You do not forgive us and have mercy on us, then surely, we are of the losers.” 23 Said He, 'Get you down, each of you an enemy to each. In the earth a sojourn shall be yours, and enjoyment for a time.' 24 there shall you live" - He added - "and there shall you die, and thence shall you be brought forth [on Resurrection Day]! 25
