The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the night, when it envelops, 1 And by the day as it appears in brightness; 2 And the creating of the male and the female, 3 Verily, [O men,] you aim at most divergent ends! 4 Thus, as for him who gives [to others] and is conscious of God, 5 and believes in the finest, 6 We shall surely ease him to the Path of Easing; 7 But for those who are niggardly, horde their wealth, 8 and have no faith in receiving any reward (from God). 9 We shall facilitate the path to affliction 10 His riches will not save him when he perisheth. 11 Indeed, [incumbent] upon Us is guidance. 12 And verify Ours is both the Hereafter and the life present. 13 Now I have warned you of a Fire that flames, 14 none shall enter it but the most wicked, 15 who belied and turned away, 16 And Al-Muttaqun (the pious and righteous - see V. 2:2) will be far removed from it (Hell). 17 one who gives his wealth to become purified, 18 and confers no favour on any man for recompense, 19 But only seeking the countenance of his Lord, Most High. 20 and before long he will be well satisfied. 21
