Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ Nay, I swear by this city - 1 For you (O dear Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him) are in this city. 2 by the begetter, and that he begot, 3 We have indeed created man surrounded by hardships. 4 Does he think that none has power over him! 5 He saith: I have wasted riches plenteous. 6 Does he think that no one sees him? 7 Did We not assign unto him two eyes 8 and a tongue, and two lips, 9 And shown unto him the two highways? 10 But he could not scale the steep ascent. 11 Ah, what will convey unto thee what the Ascent is! - 12 (It is) to free a slave, 13 or the feeding, upon a day of [one's own] hunger, 14 An orphan near of kin, 15 or of a needy [stranger] lying in the dust 16 And moreover to be of those who accepted faith, and who urged patience to one another and who urged graciousness to one another. 17 Those are the companions of the right. 18 But they who disbelieved in Our signs - those are the companions of the left. 19 The Fire will vault them over. 20
True are the words of God the Almighty.
