The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the sun and its rising brightness 1 and by the moon as it follows it, 2 and by the day as it displays the sun's glory, 3 By the night when it envelopeth it, 4 And [by] the sky and He who constructed it 5 And the earth and Him Who extended it, 6 And [by] the soul and He who proportioned it 7 And inspired it with the wickedness thereof and the piety thereof, 8 Indeed successful is the one who made it pure. 9 and failed has he who seduces it. 10 The people of Thamud rejected (the truth) as a result of their rebelliousness 11 when the most wicked of them broke forth, 12 But the Messenger of Allah said to them: "It is a She-camel of Allah! And (bar her not from) having her drink!" 13 But they belied him, and hamstrung her. So their Lord crushed them for their sin and leveled it (their village). 14 And He (Allah) feared not the consequences thereof. 15
